Better People Care has collaborated with local, highly skilled Handymen who care about the ability of older folks’ to live safely and confidently in their own homes.  Through the personalized, comprehensive home safety assesssment completed through our Occupational Therapy team, we’ll determine what changes need to be made to one’s home to help them age in place.  Our Handymen are trained in dementia-friendly, age-friendly ways to relate to folks who need our services

Our handman services are completed by Handymen trained to provide these services for folks with a few gray hairs.  If safety modifications are needed to prevent falls and increase safety in one’s home, a personalized home safety assessment will be completed by one of our Occupational Therapists

The annual subscription will include two 2-hour visits annually in one’s home to tend to seasonal maintenance that may include changing furnace filters, checking smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, replacing light bulbs, other basic home maintenance needs that become more difficult to complete as we age 

Older adults often leave their homes because care of the home gets to be too much, they begin to have falls in their homes, or their confidence decreases in their ability to be safe in their own homes.  The evidence is clear that with the skilled intervention of an Occupational Therapist, we can remedy many of those concerns.  Our personalized fall prevention programs are based on a wealth of research and extensive clinical experience and include comprehensive Occupational Therapy home safety assessments with modifications completed by our handyman team.  In addition, with our focus on the whole person and the big picture of their life context, we are able to prescribe strategies and interventions to reduce the isolation, depression, and physical and cognitive decline that may accompany the aging process.  Our goal is to help folks live fully in their own homes, and our Home Handyman program is an important piece of this puzzle.  (Home handyman projects are being used in Nebraska and through a large study being conducted by John Hopkins University, with impressive results for helping folks safely and comfortably remain in their own homes) 

Yes!  Anyone can use this service!  Our focus, however, is to help folks that are traveling through the aging (and often health concern) process.
