It Takes A Special Village

At Better People Care, we believe the best approach to dementia care is a team approach; where several minds and eyes and ears, each training in the DAWN Method, are paying attention to the lives of our friends living with dementia.

And we believe that as we train families, and friends, and neighbors, and church communities, and the broader communities, life will become a more supportive place for folks with dementia, and their caregivers.

It’s a lot like the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”, only this time it’s a person with a lifetime of history, a person who has been making their own decisions for decades.  And now, they are needing support and care.

“Everybody in a village had a role to play in bringing up a child—and cherishing it—and in return that child would in due course feel responsible for everybody in that village. That is what makes life in society possible. We must love one another and help one another in our daily lives. That was the traditional African way and there was no substitute for it. None.”
― Alexander McCall Smith, The Full Cupboard of Life

And so it is with dementia, everyone has a role in making community a dementia-friendly, dementia supportive place.

Big Kudos to Cyndy Luzinski with Dementia Together, who has been spreading dementia-friendly knowledge and help throughout Northern Colorado for the last 7 years.  We are happy to be moving forward with the momentum she began, with her devotion to folks on the dementia journey.

The Better People Care team is a special team.  We have each come to dementia care with our unique set of history and experiences.  And we are honored to be creating moments of security and well-being for those with dementia, and bringing hope, education, training, and help for those giving care.

We are doing our best to make our villages better.

With gratitude,

Jill
