Our Friend Fred

Our friend Fred passed away this week.  He passed peacefully in his own room, in the home of his daughter and her husband.

We had the privilege of knowing him for just a few short months; of enjoying time with him talking about Nebraska, and Willa Cather, and the beef industry, and rare and collectible coins.  He gave us advice on how and why to get some of our collectible coins appraised, and how to find a reputable coin dealer.  His eyes sparkled and his mind whirred with interest about the topic of collectible coins.  It was a peaceful, and engaging time with Fred, and we were honored to bring him companionship and conversation.

While we enjoyed our time with Fred, his daughter and her husband got a break, and peace of mind that Fred was enjoying his time with “friends”.

Fred’s daughter and her husband devoted their last year to providing full-time care for Fred in their home.  Fred had been a resident of a senior community in Lincoln, Nebraska when Covid hit, and his daughter and son-in-law chose to have him live with them versus live out his days in a facility without family visits.

I know that Fred’s family will miss him.  But they can know that they gave him comfort, excellent care, and time and love with family in his final months.

To Fred we say, “Rest in peace, friend.”  To his daughter and son-in-law, we say, “Well done.  You gave your Father a gift.  Breathe deeply now.”

Honored to be a part of our friends’ journey,

Jill
