Four years ago, I started Better People Care because I believed we could do better when caring for folks living with dementia. Recently we were selected by the Better Business Bureau to receive the Spark Award!
The Spark award recognizes business leaders based on their character, the culture of the business they run, and the community they commit to support.
I am honored to share this award with my remarkable team and they deserve the recognition. Every day our team does unique and special work using the DAWN Method tools to do dementia care the right way. Our team shows grit, compassion, and strength to bring dementia specialist care to a growing number of people.
Practicing dementia care this way has allowed our clients to experience life more fully and in turn, has impacted our team in profound ways. Our relationships, even those with people without dementia, have been changed for the better because we are learning how to “be well.”
Our brave companions with dementia deserve for people to hear and to see that there is a better way, a dementia-supportive way, to help them live out their lives. That they can live with a sense of safety and security while enjoying a rich experience of life, even though they are increasingly impacted by what dementia changes.
We have the unique privilege of bringing DAWN dementia specialist care to those living with dementia and providing training, coaching, and comfort to their families and caregivers. The families we walk alongside deserve for us to take this moment, and tell them well done for what they give for their loved ones with dementia.
My own grandmother died without dementia specialist care. I promised myself then that I would never allow another person I cared about to fade from this life in the same miserable way she had.
I am honored to lead this team, doing this special work, while getting it right.
